Winter'21 Release Highlights - SDFCConnect

  • Winter is coming! It’s that time of year for Salesforce’s winter release, and there are some really cool new features coming your way. The Winter ’21 release Sandbox preview is now available; you can test your system on the new release and soon you can take advantage of exciting new features and functionality.

Two release windows for Sandboxes, depending on whether your sandbox is a “Preview” instance or “Non-Preview Instance”.

The Release Date for Winter ’21 will depend on your instance of Salesforce, but the main dates are on Sep 18th, Oct 10th & 17th.

    Let’s explore what’s new in Winter’21.

Multi-Factor Authentication: As the security landscape evolves, the threat that can compromise user credentials grow more common. We need extra protection from threats like phishing attacks and credential stuffing. That’s where multi-factor authentication (MFA) comes in. It’s a great way to ensure that although the username and password might have been compromised, the attacker or the person having the credentials still needs to enter the code generated by the authentication mechanism selected by the user.

Einstein Search: Personalization is available for Accounts, Cases, Contacts, Leads, and Opportunities. Search results are based on the user’s recent activity, the geographic location where users work most often, and record ownership. Select search options: personalization, actional instant results, and natural language search

Lightning Flow Enhancements: The major focus of Winter’21 release is on ‘Flows’.

    • AutoLayout: Making it absolutely effortless to create flow is ‘Autolayout’ mode. When you create a new flow, you will be prompted to select either to build a freeform flow or an auto-layout flow.

    • Trigger on Deletion: The flow can access any record and perform actions before the record that launched the flow is deleted from the database. This auto launched flow runs in the background and updates related records when a record is deleted eliminating the need to write apex code to perform the same

    • Debug Flow: Test a flow by “impersonating” a user, without logging in as that user. You can see the flow’s debug log exactly as a specified user sees it. Catch flow exceptions such as unexpected permission, sharing, and profile configurations

Manage Deleted Fields in Lightning Experience: Now you can also manage deleted fields in Lightning Experience.  Deleted custom fields initially are soft deleted and their data is stored until they’re permanently deleted, or after 15 days elapse. You can then choose to undelete or permanently delete the fields from the list of soft-deleted fields.

Analyze Lightning pages: Performance Analysis in App Builder evaluates the fields, instances of the Related Lists component, and metadata of a record page. With the click of a button, get the best practices and suggestions for improving page performance and the end-user experience.

Dynamic Forms: The more fields on your page layout, the more that the Record Detail component becomes a monolithic block of fields that you can’t customize. Dynamic Forms gives you the ability to configure record detail fields and sections inside the Lightning App Builder. Now Dynamic forms are enabled for everyone! To get started, open an existing record page in the Lightning App Builder, then click Upgrade Now from the Record Detail properties pane to launch the Dynamic Forms migration wizard. With only a few clicks, the wizard adds fields and field sections to the page for you.

Deals changes at a Glance: A convenient dashboard to view the recent changes to amounts and close dates. (1). Green text and arrows indicate amounts that increased and close dates that were pulled in (2). Hover over an arrow to see what changed, who changed it, and when (3). Enable this on the Opportunity Settings page in Setup, check the box for Show amounts that changed and/or Show close dates that changed.

Auto Add fields to Custom Report types: Usually its time-consuming to add new custom fields to custom reports. Now with Auto Add, custom fields that you add to a Salesforce object are added automatically to all the custom report types based on that object. When you create a report from the custom report type, all the custom fields are right there for you to add to your report.

Salesforce Anywhere (Beta): Salesforce Anywhere is the future experience of CRM — with a unified view as a way to improve collaboration within Salesforce. With this new app, you can get alerts about changes to the Salesforce data that you are concerned about, update your Salesforce data in just a few taps with suggested actions, collaborate in context with chat, search and view your Salesforce data and also integrate Salesforce Anywhere chat and alerts into your business processes with Lightning Flow and Process Builder. 2. Access AuraEnabled Methods: Provide increased access security by granting explicit user permissions for users (including Guest, Portal, and Authenticated users) to access Apex Classes containing @AuraEnabled Apex methods.
    3. Salesforce for Outlook: Salesforce will retire Salesforce for Outlook by December 2020, and recommends migrating to next-generation Microsoft integration products: The Outlook Integration and Einstein Activity Capture
